We are excited to announce an important update to our React Native CaptureSDK! Our newest version now supports the React Native version 0.75.4 and introduces a highly requested feature: the ability to customise the SocketCam viewfinder within your app. Previously, the viewfinder was limited to a full-screen view. With this latest release, you now have the flexibility to tailor your user's camera scanning ability to your app's unique needs, user requirements, and workflows.

What's new with the custom SocketCam viewfinder?

With the latest React Native CaptureSDK update, you can now choose between:

  • Full-Screen Scanning: Great for dedicated scanning moments in your app.
  • Customisable Viewfinder: Enables a compact, custom-sized scanning window that seamlessly fits alongside other app functions.

This flexibility empowers you to create a more refined and user-friendly experience, whether your app requires a quick, compact view for multi-tasking users or a full-screen option for fully focused scanning.

How this impacts your application development

The advanced SocketCam customisation simplifies development while providing your users with a scanning interface that matches their workflow:

  • Greater Control: You can now configure how and where the viewfinder appears within your app, giving you more freedom to design an ideal UI/UX experience.
  • Tailored User Experience: Adapt the viewfinder for specific tasks or workflows, whether scanning documents, IDs, or product barcodes. The customisable viewfinder works alongside your app's interface to boost user productivity without monopolising the entire screen, making data capture feel more integrated and accessible.
  • Effortless Integration: Avoid complex add-ons. CaptureSDK makes it straightforward to enable SocketCam and start taking advantage of the customisable viewfinder.

The custom SocketCam viewfinder supports both the free C820 version and the advanced C860—giving your users options without needing additional scanning hardware. Your end users can start with basic, free scanning and easily upgrade to more powerful performance if their needs change, creating a seamless and scalable experience.

Ready to update?

The new SDK update is now publicly available on our React Native GitHub repository. You no longer need to log into the developer portal to obtain the access token.

To take advantage of these new capabilities, React Native developers must ensure that their applications use the latest version of CaptureSDK, 1.5.111, with SocketCam enabled. Simply update your application, enable SocketCam (if you haven't already), and start exploring how the new custom viewfinder can enhance your app's data capture capabilities.
