Socket Mobile's 2023 Year in Review
Blog by Macie BlakemanSocket Mobile is saying farewell to 2023 and giving a warm welcome to 2024! With the New Year rolling in, it's the perfect time to pause and look back at the exciting year that was. In 2023, Socket Mobile set new standards in data capture with innovative product launches while also hitting key milestones and achievements.
Here's a quick look at Socket Mobile's 2023 year in review:
New Product Launches:
DuraSled for iPhone 14: To start the year off, Socket Mobile continued our long-standing commitment to ensuring compatibility for Apple iPhone users with the arrival of new DuraSled models for iPhone 14.
DuraScan Wear DW930 & DW940: As the first wearable additions to the DuraScan Product Family, the DW930 and DW940 launched a new era of innovative scanning technologies for Socket Mobile. The DW930 came first, offering 1D laser scanning technology, and then the DW940, providing powerful 1D/2D barcode scanning functionality. The glove-like, wearable design enables workers to use both hands freely for speed and flexibility, perfect for scanning in industries such as warehousing, manufacturing, and distribution.
XtremeScan Family of Industrial Data Readers for iPhone: In August, Socket Mobile made our entry into the $5.6B industrial barcode scanning market with the XtremeScan family. XtremeScan combines the versatility and user-friendliness of iPhones with the ruggedness and top-of-the-line protection required for extreme, industrial work environments. Over the course of the year, we launched multiple variations of this new family:
- XtremeScan Case XC100: Designed to offer ultimate iPhone protection, the XtremeScan Case provides a rugged outer shell and is completely enclosed with rubberized shielding for maximum durability. It's the toughest iPhone case on the market, offering military-grade protection against drops, dirt, water, and even more unpredictable elements found in harsh industrial environments.
- XtremeScan XS930 & XS940: Building upon the XtremeScan Case, the XS series provides the same rugged iPhone protection and adds a high-performance Socket Mobile data reader. With both 1D long-range (XS930) and powerful 1D/2D (XS940) options, these data readers can scan through various types of packaging materials under different lighting conditions. They provide the perfect solution for users who wish to utilize iPhones for data capture within rough, industrial settings.
- XtremeScan Grip XG930 & XG940: This series includes two products providing 1D or 1D/2D barcode scanning capabilities and builds even further on the XS by providing an added pistol grip handle. The ergonomic grip enables an easy point-and-shoot approach and comfort during extended scanning sessions.
SocketCam C860 for iOS and Android: Our latest advancement in camera-based barcode scanning, SocketCam C860, is taking mobile barcode scanning to new levels in speed and performance. Building on last year's SocketCam C820, which introduced a free, easily integrated camera scanning solution, the C860 offers a significant upgrade for users with advanced scanning needs. Its standout feature is the swift and accurate reading of damaged barcodes, coupled with exceptional performance in poor lighting conditions, setting the C860 apart from others in the industry.
Noteworthy Accomplishments and Milestones:
Socket Scanner Spotted in NY Times: In February, a Socket Mobile barcode scanner was spotted in the NY Times at the grand opening of Housing Works Cannabis Co in Manhattan. Our data readers helped facilitate the first recreational sale of cannabis in NY, and The Housing Works Cannabis Co. trusted our scanners to help them conduct their opening day and ongoing business needs.
S550 Gains CIPURSE Support: Our SocketScan S550 NFC Mobile Wallet Reader earned notable certifications this year, including CIPURSE Support. CIPURSE is an open international security standard defined by the Open Standard for Public Transport (OSPT) Alliance to ensure transit system and payment interoperability. Socket Mobile's S550 underwent a series of tests conducted by the OSPT Alliance Lab to ensure it meets the CIPURSE standard.
S550 Gains FeliCa Support: In addition to CIPURSE support, our S550 also gained FeliCa certification this year. FeliCa is a contactless Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) smart card technology from Sony in Japan and is used for convenient payment and other transactions. This certification for the S550 plays a significant role in our service delivery to app providers in Japan, Southeast Asia, and other vital regions who are providing apps for e-money, payments, loyalty, e-ID, ticketing, hospitality, and beyond.
S370 NFC Forum Certification: Our SocketScan S370 Universal NFC & QR Code Mobile Wallet Reader recently passed the NFC Forum Certification's rigorous testing and validation process. This further certifies its interoperability and performance within a vast NFC environment, which is fundamental to ensuring users enjoy a seamless and trouble-free NFC experience.
